2025 Razzie Nominations Spotlight Lady Gaga, ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ and ‘Madame Web’

2025 Razzie nominations include Lady Gaga, ‘Joker: Folie à Deux,’ ‘Madame Web’

Receiving a nomination at the 2025 Razzies is certainly not a mark of honor.

On Tuesday, the nominations for the Golden Raspberry Awards were announced. This parody award show highlights the most disappointing films and performances of the year, with “Joker: Folie a Deux” topping the list with seven unwanted nominations.

The sequel, received poorly by critics, has both Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga nominated for worst actor and actress respectively. Phoenix had previously won an Oscar for his role in the original film. Additionally, they are also nominated for worst screen combo, adding insult to this already troubled production that faced sharp criticism from Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser in her recent monologue.

Other films that received six nominations each include “Borderlands,” “Madame Web,” “Megalopolis,” and “Reagan,” which collectively contested for the worst picture title alongside “Joker.”

Dakota Johnson is in the running for worst actress for “Madame Web,” another superhero film that failed to impress critics. Her co-stars, Tahar Rahim and Emma Roberts, also received nominations for their supporting roles.

Francis Ford Coppola is highlighted as a worst director nominee for his long-anticipated project “Megalopolis,” which reportedly cost him millions of his own funds. Interestingly, some critics, including those from The New York Times, have referred to this controversial film as one of the year’s finest.

The nominations list didn’t spare the video game adaptation “Borderlands” or the Ronald Reagan biopic “Reagan,” which equally struggled in reviews.

Some actors found themselves nominated for multiple films. Jack Black faced nominations for best lead actor in “Dear Santa” and best supporting actor in “Borderlands.” Meanwhile, Ariana DeBose was recognized for worst supporting actress in both “Argylle” and “Kraven the Hunter,” and Jon Voight received nods for worst supporting actor for four separate films: “Megalopolis,” “Reagan,” “Shadow Land,” and “Strangers.”

Also mentioned are Jerry Seinfeld’s “Unfrosted,” a comedy about Pop-Tarts, and Jennifer Lopez’s sci-fi film “Atlas,” which earned Lopez a worst actress nomination.

The Razzies have humorously critiqued the worst in cinema since 1981. However, the event has faced its share of controversies; some critics claim the awards can come off as overly harsh. In 2023, the organization apologized for nominating Ryan Kiera Armstrong, a 12-year-old, for worst actress following significant backlash.

At that time, Razzies co-founder John Wilson acknowledged the insensitivity of the nomination, and they removed her from the ballot, also issuing a public apology to Armstrong for the distress caused by their actions.

The “winners” of the 2025 Razzie Awards will be announced on March 1, just a day before the Oscars ceremony.
