38 Injured as United Flight to D.C. Faces ‘Unexpected Aircraft Movement’
On Friday morning, 38 individuals were reported injured, with 6 sustaining serious injuries, on a United Airlines flight traveling to Washington, D.C., according to updates from Nigerian officials over the weekend.
United Airlines flight 613 had to return to Lagos, Nigeria, after encountering what was described as “unexpected movement,” initially resulting in four passengers and two flight attendants being taken to the hospital for evaluation.
The flight was operated using a Boeing 787 and had on board 245 passengers, eight flight attendants, and three pilots.
The aircraft landed in Lagos at 3:22 a.m., as noted in a report by The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria on social media.
“It landed safely in Lagos, and four passengers along with two flight attendants received medical attention for minor injuries and have since been released. We are collaborating with aviation authorities in both the U.S. and Nigeria to determine the cause of the incident,” stated United in a message to YSL News.
27 Additional Passengers and 5 Crew Members Injured on United Flight
In a follow-up update on social media, Nigerian airport authorities revealed that 27 other passengers and five crew members experienced minor injuries during the incident.
These individuals received first aid and were released “immediately.”
The four passengers and two flight attendants who sustained more serious injuries were stabilized at local medical facilities before being transported to Duchess Hospital in Ikeja, according to information from the airport authorities.
Medical Teams Prepared Before the Aircraft’s Arrival
In a separate announcement on social media, the airport authority mentioned that medical teams were ready at the site before the aircraft’s arrival.
Images shared online depicted food and drinks scattered across the plane’s cabin.
