Fortnite OG Returns: Everything You Need to Know About Its Launch, Maps, and Game Pass Details

Fortnite OG is back. Here’s what you need to know about its release, maps, and game pass.

Fortnite has confirmed that the OG version of the game has returned, launching on December 6 for both new and returning enthusiasts of the popular title.

Players can now enjoy Fortnite in its classic (OG) form with the launch of Season 1, which started on Friday, as announced by the game’s developers.

The game is “returning to its roots” by offering the OG experience, providing both newcomers and veterans a chance to relive the “classic Fortnite Battle Royale experience,” as stated in the announcement from the Fortnite team.

“Jump off the battle bus and feel the adrenaline rush as you land. Deploy your glider to soar into the fray, secure a weapon, and engage in the fight to survive,” the announcement reads.

Alongside the classic Battle Royale experience, players will also access “original loot, classic locations, and OG gameplay,” as per the game’s developers.

Here’s everything you should know about Fortnite OG, including details about the rollout, map, and game pass.

What is Fortnite OG?

Fortnite OG aims to recreate the early magic of the game by returning to the maps, loot, and gameplay features that captivated players when it debuted in 2017, according to the developers.

At launch, there will be Solo and Squads modes available, along with a Zero Build option that eliminates the need to gather resources for building structures, with ranked play for Fortnite OG coming shortly afterward.

Some features introduced post-original release will still be available, including enhanced building mechanics and abilities to sprint, slide, mantle, smash doors, and move while healing, according to the release.

When does Fortnite OG Season 1 conclude?

Players should note that seasons in Fortnite OG will be shorter compared to current Battle Royale seasons, with Season 1 scheduled to wrap up on January 31, 2025, at 2 a.m. ET, per the announcement.

Will the original Fortnite map be restored?

Yes, the original Fortnite map from the 2017 launch is making a return, confirmed by the developers.

“Every detail, from every tree to chests, vehicles, and objects, has been meticulously placed right where you remember them,” the release states. “In Zero Build mode, features like Ziplines and Ascenders have been added to help you navigate difficult-to-reach areas.”

The loot available at launch will mirror what was available on the very first day of Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 1, Season 1 seven years ago, with additional items to be introduced as Chapter 1, Season 1 begins, according to the developers.

More details on the Fortnite OG pass

The Fortnite OG pass for Chapter 1, Season 1 will be available until January 31, 2025, at 2 a.m. ET. This pass consists of 45 tiers of classic rewards “with a modern twist” on vintage items and outfits, as described in the release.

Among the outfits available to unlock in Season 1 are Renegade Rebel, Aerial Assault Bomber, and Skull Commander, each with an alternating style possible to earn.

Players can level up the pass using XP gained from any gameplay experience within Fortnite, the announcement specifies.

Fortnite OG Cups are also on the horizon, which will be unprized open competitions specifically for the Fortnite OG mode, according to the developers.

“In these cups, all the OG loot will be accessible without any competitive loot adjustments,” the release states.
