The Oscars are breaking new ground.

This year’s Oscars, which honor the best in film, will not only broadcast live on ABC but also stream live on Hulu for the very first time. Additionally, viewers can catch up on the ceremony the following day on-demand.

Recently, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that Conan O’Brien, a former late-night television star, will host the 97th Academy Awards next March.

This will mark O’Brien’s debut as an Oscars host, although he previously hosted the Emmys in 2002 and 2006.

Between 2019 and 2021, the Academy explored the idea of not having a host for the Oscars, a shift that came after Kevin Hart stepped away from the role in 2018 due to criticism over past homophobic remarks.

The nominations for the Golden Globes, which were announced Monday, are now bringing attention to Oscar season, although there’s currently no standout frontrunner.

The Netflix musical crime thriller “Emilia Pérez” is leading the nominations with a total of 10 for the upcoming 82nd Golden Globe Awards on January 5, the first significant awards ceremony for 2025.

The period drama “The Brutalist” follows with seven nominations, including Best Drama, while the thriller “Conclave” received six. The body horror film “The Substance” earned five nods, and all four of these films are in the running for Best Comedy or Musical, competing against “Anora” and the Broadway adaptation “Wicked.”

Golden Globes nominations often predict Oscar contenders

The Golden Globes nominations are frequently viewed as a precursor to the Oscars, offering insight into potential Academy Award nominees.

Potential Oscar nominees for the 2025 ceremony could include stars like Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Mikey Madison, Angelina Jolie, Zoe Saldaña, Timothée Chalamet, Nicole Kidman, and Denzel Washington.

The competition for Best Picture is particularly open, with films like “Dune: Part Two” and “Wicked” competing alongside other notable contenders such as “Anora,” “Emilia Pérez,” “Conclave,” and “The Brutalist.”

The Oscars will be held on Sunday, March 2, at 7 p.m. ET, available on both ABC and Hulu.
