The Extraordinary Legacy of The Amazing Kreskin: A Master Mentalist Passes at 89

The Amazing Kreskin, beloved mentalist and frequent ‘Tonight Show’ guest, passes away at 89

Greg Kresge Jr., widely recognized by his stage name The Amazing Kreskin, has sadly passed away at the age of 89.

Augustine Covert, his former representative, confirmed Kreskin’s passing to YSL News on Wednesday. Reports from The Hollywood Reporter and The New York Times indicate that he died at his home in New Jersey on Tuesday. His 90th birthday would have been next month.

Kreskin became widely known in the 1970s for showcasing his intuitive skills multiple times on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” as well as in live performances.

“At the conclusion of each show, Kreskin would say, ‘Let’s not say goodbye, let’s just say to be continued,'” shared Ryan Galway, his former road manager, with The Morristown Daily Record, which is part of the YSL News Network.

His television show “The Amazing World of Kreskin” aired from 1972 to 1975 in Canada and later in syndication across the United States. Throughout his career, Kreskin made appearances on “Late Night with David Letterman,” “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” and the “Howard Stern Show,” while also sharing his New Year’s predictions on CNN yearly.

Kreskin emphasized that his abilities were not psychic but rather based on suggestion and “‘extrasensory’ perceptions,” as he noted in his 1991 book “Secrets of the Amazing Kreskin.” One of his signature performances involved locating the check for his shows at the venue where he performed; if he couldn’t find it, he would not receive payment that evening. Remarkably, Kreskin claimed he encountered this situation less than a dozen times.

At the height of his career, Kreskin performed over 300 shows a year, according to Galway.

“He was one of the kindest individuals you could meet,” Galway reflected in an interview. “He had two facets: the Amazing Kreskin, concerned with business, and the other, a warm-hearted person. I cherished my time with him, absorbing his stories. He truly lived an extraordinary life.”
