Northeast on the Verge of Wild Weather Swings as Schools Close Due to Snow

A weather ‘roller-coaster ride’ is coming to Northeast as snow closes schools

Wintry weather, including a mix of snow and rain, will persist across the Northeast on Monday, with another round of severe weather expected to impact the area later in the week, according to meteorologists.

Most of the Northeast will experience a transition from snowy conditions to occasional rain as temperatures rise throughout Monday, as noted by AccuWeather. This short warm spell will provide a brief pause before the next series of storms arrives.

“A roller-coaster weather forecast awaits the Northeast this week,” commented AccuWeather Meteorologist Brandon Buckingham. He cautioned about the likelihood of a significant storm developing late this week into the weekend, which may bring accumulating snow and frigid temperatures.

On a positive note, rain across the Mississippi and Tennessee valleys moving into the Mid-Atlantic and southern New England regions will help alleviate some drought conditions in parts of the Northeast, according to AccuWeather. However, there is also the risk of flash flooding. Buckingham mentioned that a snowstorm could occur along the East Coast on Friday and Saturday.

Updates:

∎ Some schools in western Massachusetts and Connecticut were closed on Monday, while others started later due to snowfall.

∎ Regions as far south as Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia experienced snowfall on Monday morning.

Details about weekend storms still pending

“Minor changes in the anticipated storm path could significantly affect the forecast,” Buckingham stated. “It’s important to recognize that holiday travelers may face challenges if the storm tracks closer to the coast.”

Following this storm, expect “very cold air” to settle into the Northeast as Christmas approaches, he added.

West Coast to face more severe weather

The Pacific Northwest, which experienced intense storms last week, including a tornado near San Francisco on Saturday, is likely to encounter a prolonged period of severe weather again.

AccuWeather meteorologists warned that in the coming week, many areas along the northwest coast are expected to be subjected to ongoing rain and snow in the mountains, as the prevailing weather pattern suggests more storms are imminent.
