Chance the Rapper’s spouse Kirsten Corley Bennett initiates divorce 8 months after separation
Chance the Rapper and his spouse Kirsten Corley Bennett have decided to part ways.
On Friday, Corley Bennett officially filed for divorce from the Chicago rapper in Cook County, Illinois, as per court documents obtained by YSL News. This legal action follows “The Voice” judge, whose full name is Chancelor Bennett, publicly announcing their split in an April update on his Instagram Stories.
YSL News has contacted representatives for Chance the Rapper to request a statement.
In April, both parties shared news of their separation via a joint statement on Chance’s Instagram Stories, noting, “After a time apart, we have mutually decided to go our separate ways” and added that “this decision was made respectfully, with appreciation for our shared experiences.”
“We respectfully request privacy during this transition,” their statement concluded.
The couple has two daughters, 9-year-old Kensli and five-year-old Marli Grace, and they plan to “co-parent” moving forward. Chance and Corley tied the knot in March 2019.
They reportedly exchanged vows in an extravagant ceremony at the Resort at Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, California, with several celebrity guests including Kim Kardashian, Kanye “Ye” West, Dave Chappelle, and singer Kirk Franklin, who performed at the wedding, according to Paper City Magazine.
As reported by the Chicago Tribune, a marriage certificate indicates the couple legally married in a civil ceremony in Chicago on December 27, 2018.
Just days before they wed, Chance recounted meeting Corley Bennett at his mother’s workplace party when he was just 9 years old in 2003.
“We were told to make way for a special performance by DESTINY’S CHILD!!” Chance shared on X, reminiscing about a lip-sync performance with Corley. “In that moment, I locked eyes with the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my nearly ten years of life.”
