LOS ANGELES − Amazon employees in Southern California, represented by the Teamsters union, have given the green light for a strike at four warehouses, following similar approvals in New York and Illinois.

This latest strike authorization, revealed in a press release on Tuesday, involves Teamsters members at facilities in City of Industry, San Bernardino, Victorville, and Palmdale. While this allows for strikes to be initiated, it does not ensure that they will take place.

The Teamsters expressed frustration that Amazon did not meet a Dec. 15 deadline to engage in negotiations, warning of potential “large-scale labor actions” during a critical holiday period.

“Our air hub is essential to Amazon’s operations,” remarked Tobias Cheng, an employee at the KSBD air hub in San Bernardino. “If a strike occurs, it could significantly disrupt services for customers both regionally and beyond.”

In response, Amazon has consistently declined to acknowledge the union and stated to YSL News that this strike does not accurately reflect its workforce.

“For over a year, the Teamsters have misled the public, claiming to represent ‘thousands of Amazon employees and drivers,'” stated company spokesperson Eileen Hands. “They do not represent these workers, and this is merely another attempt to spread inaccuracies.”

Strike approvals also in New York and Illinois

These potential strikes could significantly affect the online retail giant during an important holiday season. However, company representatives told CNN on Tuesday that they do not anticipate any disruptions to holiday operations.

The company has yet to respond to inquiries regarding how a strike might impact their operations.

“We are not asking for much,” stated James Saccardo, an employee at the JFK8 facility, during the announcement of the New York strike approvals. “We just want what every American aims for—to work and earn enough to support ourselves and our families. Unfortunately, Amazon is not allowing us to achieve that.”

According to the Teamsters, workers at ten facilities nationwide have united under their banner.
