Tesla is recalling nearly 700,000 vehicles due to an issue with the tire pressure monitoring system’s warning light.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced Thursday that this recall impacts a total of 694,304 vehicles, including the Cybertruck, Model 3, and Model Y.

The NHTSA indicated that the affected vehicles might not keep the warning light on between trips, potentially failing to alert drivers about low tire pressure levels. This issue could result in driving on tires that aren’t properly inflated, thereby increasing the potential for an accident.

To fix this, Tesla will provide an over-the-air (OTA) software update to vehicle owners at no cost.

Models Being Recalled

The NHTSA’s recall reference number for this action is SB-24-00-018. Tesla plans to send notifications to affected drivers by February 15, 2025.

Affected Models Include:

• 2017-2025 Tesla Model 3
• 2020-2025 Tesla Model Y
• 2024 Tesla Cybertruck

Ensuring proper tire pressure is crucial for vehicle safety, especially during winter. Tire pressure can decrease by one PSI for every ten degrees of temperature drop. Tires that are underinflated can negatively affect braking, steering, and overall handling.

Recent Tesla Recalls in 2024

This year has seen Tesla managing numerous recalls, with seven distinct recalls specifically for the Cybertruck model. In November, 2,431 units of the Cybertruck were recalled due to a defective drive inverter that could lead to a loss of power and increase crash risks.

In July, Tesla recalled nearly 1.85 million vehicles over problems related to the hood that could potentially compromise safety.

Additionally, over 2 million vehicles were recalled in February due to concerns about safety warning signals that appeared in an excessively small font.
