Paul McCartney reunites with Ringo Starr during London tour stop

During his last concert stop of the year, Paul McCartney came together with his former Beatles bandmate Ringo Starr.

On Thursday night, McCartney surprised fans at London’s O2 Arena with a special appearance from Starr, the legendary drummer, along with fellow British musician Ronnie Wood from The Rolling Stones.

The crowd erupted in excitement when McCartney invited his friends to join him on stage during his Got Back Tour performance.

“Shall we rock?” McCartney asked Starr at the beginning of the show, joking, “Get on your kit!” They performed “Helter Skelter” and “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” for the audience.

After the performances, Starr expressed his joy to the audience, saying, “I’ve had an amazing night. I love you all,” while flashing peace signs before leaving the stage. McCartney bid him farewell, saying, “Goodbye Ringo, I’ll see you soon.”

McCartney and Starr are the only remaining members of The Beatles. John Lennon was tragically killed in 1980, and George Harrison passed away from cancer in 2001 at the age of 58. Earlier this year, Starr shared with YSL News about the close bond he shares with McCartney.

“When I’m in LA, we definitely hang out, and when I’m in England, we do the same. It’s just what we do. We traveled to Paris together in March for Stella McCartney’s fashion line but primarily for the lunch. (Laughs.) Seriously, we had a great time together, sitting in the same train carriage,” Starr told YSL News.

Back in March, they also connected at McCartney’s youngest daughter’s autumn/winter fashion event, where they were spotted sitting together with their spouses, Barbara Bach and Nancy Shevell.

In a November interview with AARP last year, Starr elaborated on the brotherly love he feels for McCartney.

“Paul cares about me just as much as I care about him. He’s the brother I always wanted,” stated Starr. “As an only child, I suddenly found myself with three brothers. We always had each other’s backs.”

Starr noted to AARP that “George was the first to release a solo album, and I played the drums. John started the Plastic Ono Band, and I was the drummer there too. Paul loves to play the drums himself, otherwise, I would have been on his albums as well.” He added that McCartney had “a stronger work ethic than any of us” during their time in The Beatles.

The history of the band is highlighted in the newly released Disney+ documentary “Beatles ’64,” which premiered on Thanksgiving weekend and contains rare footage from a 1964 TV special alongside new interviews with McCartney and Starr.
