Beau Pribula Makes Waves: Penn State Backup QB Chooses Missouri in Transfer Portal Move

Penn State football backup QB Beau Pribula transfers to Missouri

Beau Pribula, the backup quarterback for Penn State football, is heading to the Southeastern Conference.

This dual-threat quarterback, ranked as the 12th best in the transfer portal according to 247Sports, pledged his commitment to Missouri late Sunday evening, as reported by On3’s Pete Nakos.

Pribula selected the Tigers and coach Eliah Drinkwitz after also checking out Iowa, UCF, and Ole Miss. He had previously canceled a visit to Indiana after the Hoosiers were eliminated from the College Football Playoff by Notre Dame.

His choice to enter the transfer portal on December 15 was unexpected, especially since the Nittany Lions were preparing for a College Football Playoff game against SMU. He saw more action than many backups in Penn State’s system.

At 6-foot-2, he described his time of entering the transfer portal as “an impossible decision.” The window for transfers opened on December 8 and closes on December 28, overlapping with the college football calendar. This decision followed shortly after Penn State’s starting quarterback Drew Allar announced his return for another season.

“Playing for Penn State has always been a dream of mine. These past three years wearing the blue & white have been some of the best moments in my life,” Pribula stated in his Sunday post. “The current NCAA postseason structure has posed challenges for student-athletes, as the CFP and transfer portal timelines are not aligned, leading to this tough choice.”

Penn State head coach James Franklin described Pribula’s situation as a “no-win scenario.” Pribula had stepped in when Allar was injured, leading the team to a comeback victory against Wisconsin on October 26. This season, he recorded 275 passing yards and five touchdowns, along with 242 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.

For Missouri, Pribula now offers an additional candidate for the starting quarterback position as they approach the 2025 season. Brady Cook, the current starter, will be graduating after five seasons, and Pribula will be competing with Drew Pyne for the top spot in training camp.

Pribula becomes the 12th player to join Missouri via the transfer portal this offseason, joining a group that includes linebacker Josiah Trotter from West Virginia.
