Shohei Ohtani reveals he and wife are expecting their first baby
Shohei Ohtani, a multiple All-Star and World Series champion, is about to take on a new role: fatherhood.
The Los Angeles Dodgers star made the exciting announcement on Instagram this past Saturday that he and his wife, former pro basketball player Mamiko Tanaka, are going to have a child.
“Looking forward to welcoming the little rookie into our family soon!” he shared, alongside a photo of baby clothing and his cherished dog, Decoy.
This news wraps up a remarkable year for Ohtani. In his inaugural season with the Dodgers, he made MLB history by achieving a 50-homer, 50-steal season, helping lead Los Angeles to a World Series victory during his first-ever playoff run. He also secured his third MVP award, notably his first in the National League, joining the esteemed Frank Robinson as the only players to win MVPs in both leagues.
While this will be his first child, Ohtani has already embraced a fatherly role with his dog Decoy, who has unofficially become the Dodgers’ mascot this season. Decoy appeared in a bobblehead giveaway where Ohtani was depicted holding him. He also made history as the first dog to throw a ceremonial first pitch on August 28 and took part in the Dodgers’ World Series parade and celebration.
