Tennessee Maintains Top Spot as Kansas Falls in YSL News Sports Men’s College Basketball Rankings

Tennessee Remains at No. 1 as Kansas Slips Down in YSL News Sports Men’s College Basketball Rankings

Tennessee continues to be the only unbeaten team in Division I men’s basketball, so it’s no surprise that the Volunteers hold onto the No. 1 position in the YSL News Sports Coaches Poll for another week.

After a solid victory against Arkansas over the weekend, the Volunteers secured 21 out of 31 first-place votes, maintaining their leading position. Auburn remains in second, with the other 10 first-place votes going to them. Iowa State stays in third place, while Duke keeps its spot at fourth.

The rankings see movement starting at fifth place, where Alabama rises after giving new SEC team Oklahoma its first loss. Marquette climbs two spots to sixth, and Kentucky leaps four places to seventh following a victory over the previously undefeated Florida in what was dubbed the game of the weekend on Saturday.

The voters were lenient towards the Gators, who drop only three spots to eighth place. Texas A&M secures the ninth spot, and two-time defending champion Connecticut returns to the top 10.

On the other hand, Kansas did not receive the same favorable treatment. Despite bouncing back from a midweek loss to West Virginia with a strong win against Central Florida, the Jayhawks fall five spots to twelfth place. Oklahoma and Oregon also drop out of the top 10, sitting at sixteenth and seventeenth respectively.

Illinois witnesses the most significant rise within the Top 25, moving up five positions to fifteenth after their successful games against Oregon and Washington in the Big Ten’s new Pacific Northwest area.

West Virginia enters the rankings at twenty-third position, thanks to their win over Kansas. Michigan at twenty-fourth and Utah State at twenty-fifth make a return to the poll as well. Meanwhile, Cincinnati, Baylor, and Maryland have dropped out this week.
