Pacific Palisades Blaze Forces Postponement of Critics’ Choice Awards and Cancellation of BAFTA Tea Party

Critics’ Choice Awards delayed, BAFTA Tea Party canceled due to fire in Pacific Palisades

Two significant events in Hollywood’s awards season have been called off following a destructive fire in Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles.

The Critics’ Choice Awards, designed to celebrate outstanding achievements in film, have been rescheduled for January 26 after originally being planned for this Sunday. The decision to postpone was made as a response to “the catastrophic fires affecting Southern California,” as stated in an official announcement.

“This ongoing disaster has already severely impacted our community,” remarked CCA CEO Joey Berlin in a statement provided to YSL News on Wednesday. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those fighting these terrible fires and to everyone who has been impacted.”

The revamped Critics’ Choice Awards, which will still take place at Barker Hangar, are set to be broadcast live on E! while also being available for streaming the following day on Peacock.

Driven by a strong windstorm sweeping through Los Angeles County, a brush fire has consumed over 1,200 acres, forcing thousands to evacuate their homes as of Tuesday. Notable individuals including Eugene Levy and James Woods, along with reality stars Spencer and Heidi Montag, were among those who had to leave their residences in California.

Other planned events, like the premiere of Jennifer Lopez’s movie “Unstoppable,” were also canceled due to the dangerous situation.

BAFTA Tea Party reportedly called off due to wildfire in Los Angeles

The BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) Tea Party for 2025, initially set for Saturday at The Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills, has been canceled because of the fierce fire in Pacific Palisades, according to sources from the Los Angeles Times and Deadline.

“Considering the hazardous winds and wildfires in Los Angeles, we have decided to cancel this weekend’s BAFTA Tea Party,” the organization stated in a message to the media. “The safety of our colleagues, friends, and peers in Los Angeles is our highest concern, and we are thinking of everyone affected.”

The BAFTA Tea Party plays a significant role during awards season, providing an opportunity for film professionals to network ahead of the Academy Awards scheduled for March.
