Medicare Regulations Aim to Curb Prescription Steering Practices

Researchers have found that pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) -- organizations that negotiate access to medicines for most patients in the United States -- steer patients to use their own pharmacies. Lakers’ Head Coach JJ Redick Loses Home to Palisades Fire, Report Says

JJ Redick, the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, is one of many residents in Southern California who have lost their homes due to the raging wildfires in the Los Angeles area.

Redick shared that his family had to evacuate their residence on Tuesday as the Palisades Fire grew, consuming over 17,000 acres and destroying more than 1,000 buildings in just three days, as reported by Cal Fire.

“I want to take a moment to express my thoughts and prayers for everyone in Palisades right now, which is where I live,” Redick stated on Tuesday, prior to the Lakers’ game where they lost 118-97 to the Dallas Mavericks. “My family, my wife’s family, and her twin sister have all evacuated. I know folks are feeling quite anxious, particularly my family. With the winds picking up tonight, many are understandably frightened. I just wanted to recognize that. Sending prayers and hoping everyone stays safe.”

On Thursday, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Redick’s home was destroyed by the fire. As of Thursday afternoon, the Palisades Fire was reported to be completely uncontrolled, fueled by intense Santa Ana winds.

The NBA announced earlier that Thursday’s game between the Lakers and Charlotte Hornets at the Crypto.com Center in Los Angeles has been postponed due to the wildfires.

The NBA expressed its solidarity, saying, “The entire NBA family stands in support of the Los Angeles community during this difficult time. We appreciate all the dedicated firefighters and first responders who have shown incredible bravery. Our thoughts are with those who have suffered from this devastating situation caused by the wildfires.”

The Lakers added, “We are truly saddened for Los Angeles. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic event.  Tonight’s game will be postponed to emphasize what truly matters in this moment.”

Redick is not alone in facing these challenges within the NBA community. Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard has also stepped away from the team following an evacuation order for his family, as mentioned by NBA insider Chris Haynes. Leonard was not present during the Clippers’ 126-103 defeat to the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday.
