Timothée Chalamet Takes the ‘SNL’ Stage: A Musical Debut and Hosting Homecoming!

Timothée Chalamet is set to make his debut as a musical guest on ‘SNL’ while hosting for the third time this month

Timothée Chalamet will join “Saturday Night Live” as a musical guest for the first time when the show resumes its 50th season this January.

On Friday, NBC’s famous sketch comedy series revealed its post-holiday hosting lineup: Dave Chappelle will host on January 18 with GloRilla as the musical guest, followed by Chalamet, who will host and perform on January 25. Chappelle and GloRilla are appearing just before the 2025 Grammy Awards on February 2, for which both have received nominations: best comedy album for “Dave Chappelle: The Dreamer” and best rap performance and best rap song for “Yeah Glo!”

This will be the first time for both GloRilla and Chalamet as musical guests on the show. Chalamet has previously hosted twice, in December 2020 and November 2023. His upcoming appearance coincides with the release of the biographic film “A Complete Unknown,” where he received praise for his role as the iconic Bob Dylan.

This will be Chappelle’s fourth time hosting, having previously done so in November 2016, 2020, and 2022. His upcoming show will air just two days prior to President-elect Donald Trump’s second-term inauguration.

The shows on January 18 and 25 will lead into “SNL’s” 50th anniversary special, airing on Sunday, February 16. The series will return to its regular Saturday schedule starting March 1.

Chalamet, recognized for his roles in “Wonka,” the “Dune” series, and “Call Me By Your Name,” is also a skilled singer. He showcased his vocal talents in the 2023 musical film inspired by Roald Dahl and the Dylan biopic. He dedicated five years to preparing for the part, which included training with a harmonica coach to master Dylan’s style and musicality.

“For me, performing live was essential. If I can truly do it, there’s no need for any artificial elements,” Chalamet shared in a movie preview released by Searchlight Pictures in November. “I’m proud that we took that risk.”

According to producer Fred Berger, Chalamet performed 40 songs live during filming, where he sang and played both the guitar and harmonica.
