Michael J. Fox: Thank you for the Medal of Freedom. Now, let's find a cure for Parkinson's. Thanks to a gusher of recent research breakthroughs, scientists now understand the biology of Parkinson's disease better than they ever have. Eagles triumph over struggling Packers in NFL wild-card playoff

PHILADELPHIA – In a playoff battle that probably won’t be replayed often on NFL Network, the Philadelphia Eagles emerged victorious against the Green Bay Packers with a score of 22-10 in the NFC wild-card round on Sunday.

Dallas Goedert fought his way to a 24-yard touchdown during the third quarter, while the Eagles’ defense effectivelyLimited Jordan Love, Josh Jacobs, and an already weakened Green Bay receiving unit, securing the win.

Both quarterbacks had off games. Jalen Hurts of Philadelphia started strong, completing his first six passes, but struggled afterwards, going 13-for-21 with 131 passing yards and rushing for 37 yards on five carries. This was his comeback after being sidelined for two games (and part of another) due to a concussion sustained against the Washington Commanders on December 22.

Meanwhile, Love threw two interceptions and had to depend on Jacobs and tight end Tucker Kraft for passing options, as injuries sidelined receivers Romeo Doubs and Jayden Reed, and Christian Watson was already out for the season after last week’s match against the Chicago Bears.

Even before the pregame fireworks faded, the Eagles were setting the tone. Oren Burks tackled Packers returner Keisean Nixon on the opening kickoff, which led to a review that confirmed the Eagles’ possession at the 28-yard line. Saquon Barkley quickly gained 16 yards, darting to the outside before spinning into the red zone.

Just two plays later, Hurts had ample time to throw and connected with a wide-open Jahan Dotson in the end zone, giving the Eagles a touchdown just 99 seconds into the game. NFL’s Next Gen Stats reported Hurts had an impressive 6.75 seconds to throw, marking the longest time to throw a touchdown pass from a clean pocket this season, with no Packers players coming within 2.5 yards of him.

In the second quarter, Love attempted a deep throw to Dontayvion Wicks, who was covered well by Eagles cornerback Darius Slay. The pass ended up in Slay’s hands for an easy interception—the first turnover for Love in 409 plays. His second turnover came shortly after when he failed to spot All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun dropping back in coverage, leading to another interception before halftime. He finished with a third interception thrown to Eagles rookie cornerback Quinyon Mitchell in the final minutes, sealing the game’s fate.

Packers kicker Brandon McManus, who had made 20 out of his 21 attempts this season since joining in October, missed a 38-yard field goal. The Packers’ 13-play drive gained only 37 yards and took 7:37 off the clock without scoring.

The Packers appeared to be their own worst enemy due to turnovers, penalties, and generally poor special teams play, but the defense managed to put up a strong fight, with the first-half touchdown coming only due to a short field situation.

Injuries continued to plague the Packers, with left guard Elgton Jenkins leaving early due to a shoulder injury and backup defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt exiting with a leg issue. Doubs was injured in the end zone after being targeted by Love, while Reed suffered a shoulder injury later. Center Josh Myers was carted off late in the game.

The Packers found their first real threat after a defensive pass interference call against Mitchell that brought them into the red zone. Love’s attempts to target Malik Heath and Bo Melton in the end zone were both unsuccessful, leading to another McManus field goal from 26 yards out, making the score 10-3 with 5:46 remaining in the third quarter.

Despite struggles, the Packers found some success on third down. Philadelphia began their series 1-for-7 before Hurts connected with DeVonta Smith for a crucial 28-yard gain on third down, enabling a touchdown drive where Goedert dominated the defense with three stiff-arms for a 24-yard catch-and-run score, bringing the score to 16-3 after an extra point was missed by kicker Jake Elliott.

On the last play of the third quarter, Jacobs (18 carries for 81 yards) fought through six Eagles players to almost reach the goal line. Initially ruled a touchdown, replay showed he was down before the ball crossed the plane. He quickly scored on the next play, and the extra point made it 16-10.

Barkley started strong but disappeared from the running game in the second quarter; however, he saw a resurgence with three consecutive carries to open the second half. Hurts was sacked on the second down, prompting boos from the home crowd as the Eagles opted for another run on a third and long.

In the fourth quarter, Elliott added field goals from 30 and 32 yards, giving the Eagles a more comfortable lead.
