Carrie Underwood to sing ‘America the Beautiful’ at Trump inauguration

Donald Trump’s upcoming inauguration has secured a prominent country music star for a performance.

Carrie Underwood is set to perform “America the Beautiful” during the ceremony next week, as confirmed by a representative from the Presidential Inaugural Committee to YSL News.

She will be joined by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club.

“I love our country and feel honored to sing at the Inauguration, being a part of this significant event,” Underwood stated in her message to YSL News. “I am grateful to respond to the call at a time when we all need to unite and look toward the future.”

The 41-year-old artist, known for “Jesus, Take the Wheel,” is one of the notable figures in music to perform at either of Trump’s inaugurations.

Village People to join Trump’s inauguration events, despite their candidate not winning

On Monday, the Village People announced via Facebook that they will participate in activities related to Trump’s inauguration.

“We are excited to share that the VILLAGE PEOPLE have accepted an invitation from President Elect Trump’s campaign to take part in inaugural events, including at least one with him,” their post stated. “We understand this news may not please everyone, but we believe music transcends politics.”

Their popular song “Y.M.C.A,” frequently featured at Trump’s events, “serves as a global anthem aiming to unite the country after a challenging and divided election where our chosen candidate did not win,” the group’s message expressed.

“Thus, we feel it’s now time to unite the nation through music, which is why VILLAGE PEOPLE will perform at several events during the 2025 Inauguration of Donald J. Trump,” they concluded.

YSL News has contacted Trump’s Presidential Inaugural Committee for further comments.

Who performed at Trump’s 2017 inauguration?

Prior to his inauguration in 2017, Trump held a concert at the Lincoln Memorial featuring performances by Toby Keith, Lee Greenwood, and 3 Doors Down. “I don’t apologize for performing for my country or military,” Keith remarked then. “America’s Got Talent” star Jackie Evancho also sang the national anthem at the 2017 swearing-in ceremony.

However, some performers reportedly declined invitations to sing for Trump, and Jennifer Holliday withdrew from the 2017 welcome concert amid criticism. “I initially thought that my performance could serve as a healing and unifying influence through music to aid our divided country,” she explained at the time.

“… I regrettably did not realize that my appearance would be seen as a political statement contrary to my beliefs and misread as support for Donald Trump and Mike Pence.”

Notable performers at President Biden’s inauguration in 2021 included Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez.

In a 2019 interview with The Guardian, Underwood, who has avoided public endorsement of Trump, shared her reasons for steering clear of political debates.

“I feel like many attempt to categorize me politically,” she said. “I try to remain distant from politics whenever possible, especially in public, because it leads nowhere. It’s a chaotic situation. People want to simplify everything, but the reality is much more complex.”

Recently, Underwood showcased her talent during ABC’s “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” special on December 31, hosted by Ryan Seacrest.
