Evgeni Malkin of the Penguins Reports Burglary; Three Stanley Cup Rings Stolen

Over the weekend, Evgeni Malkin, a prominent player for the Pittsburgh Penguins, experienced a break-in at his home, resulting in the theft of his three championship rings from the Stanley Cup.

Malkin confirmed the burglary and the absence of the rings through a text message to The Athletic after playing in a home game against Seattle on Tuesday night.

This incident was initially reported by Jennifer Borrasso from KDKA-TV.

The Penguins organization has acknowledged the burglary but chose not to disclose further information.

“We are in close cooperation with law enforcement and team security,” the Penguins stated. “Malkin has asked for privacy during this time, and we won’t be providing additional comments on this situation.”

Reports indicate that the break-in took place at Malkin’s home in Sewickley Heights, Pennsylvania.

Selected second overall in the 2004 NHL draft, Malkin has been a vital player for the Penguins since his debut in 2006. He played a key role in securing three championships for the team in 2009, 2016, and 2017. Malkin was recognized as the MVP of the 2009 playoffs, achieving 36 points over 24 games and finishing as leading scorer during the 2017 playoffs.

Following a series of burglaries at athletes’ homes, the FBI issued a warning to professional sports leagues last month.
