Dodgers Acquire Star Free Agent Closer Tanner Scott

The Los Angeles Dodgers are on a spending spree this offseason, adding left-handed reliever Tanner Scott, as reported by several outlets.

Scott has reportedly signed a contract worth four years and $72 million, just a day and a half after the defending World Series champions signed Japanese pitcher Roki Sasaki to enhance their already strong pitching lineup.

At 30 years old, Scott was one of the most effective relievers in the league last season, earning nine wins, achieving 22 saves, and maintaining a 1.75 ERA while playing for the Miami Marlins and San Diego Padres.

Last season marked Scott’s first All-Star selection, and he was considered the best closer available in free agency this year. He limited batters to a .179 average in 2024 and averaged 10.5 strikeouts per nine innings pitched.

He will add to a Dodger bullpen that already features right-handers Michael Kopech and Blake Treinen as possible closing options.

With this signing, the Dodgers are expected to have a luxury-tax payroll exceeding $375 million for 2025, which is about $70 million higher than the next team, the Philadelphia Phillies.
