Ohio State Concludes College Football Season Ranked No. 1 in US LBM Coaches Poll
With the College Football Playoff championship game finished, it was clear who would take the top spot in the rankings as the season wraps up. To finalize the 2024 season, the US LBM Coaches Poll conducted one last assessment of the playoff and bowl participants.
As the national champions, Ohio State achieved a perfect ranking, earning all 53 first-place votes. Their closest competitor, Notre Dame, secured the second position, receiving all but one of the votes for No. 2.
Texas is placed at No. 3, making it the highest-ranked team not in the playoffs. Oregon, who was leading before the playoff, finishes in fourth place, just four points ahead of No. 5 Penn State. Georgia is at No. 6, followed by Arizona State, the Big 12 champions, at No. 7. The top 10 is completed by Tennessee, Boise State, and Indiana, while ACC finalists Clemson and SMU are tied for 11th, rounding out the playoff rankings.
Mississippi is ranked No. 13, the highest-rated team among those not invited to the playoffs, followed by No. 14 Brigham Young and No. 15 Iowa State. Illinois is at No. 16, just ahead of Alabama, which has experienced its lowest final ranking since the 2007 season – the year when Nick Saban began his tenure in Tuscaloosa – and its first finish outside the top 10 since 2010. Miami (Fla.), South Carolina, and Missouri complete the top 20.
Army makes a noteworthy return to the rankings at No. 21 for the first time since 2019, and Syracuse stands at No. 22, marking its first Top 25 finish since 2018. Both Memphis at No. 23 and UNLV at No. 24 retain their poll positions after winning their bowl games, while Colorado manages to end the season at No. 25 despite losing its bowl game.
