Francisco San Martin, star of ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘Jane the Virgin,’ passes away at 39
Francisco San Martin, well-known for his role as Dario Hernandez on “Days of Our Lives,” tragically passed away on Thursday at the age of 39.
According to a coroner’s report from the Los Angeles Medical Examiner, which was reviewed by YSL News and covered by outlets like People and Deadline, the cause of death was ruled as suicide.
A representative for San Martin has not yet responded to requests for comment.
San Martin began his soap opera career in 2010 on “Days of Our Lives.” After a six-month period in which he appeared in nearly 60 episodes, he played the character Hernandez, a detective working on cold cases. In 2017, he transitioned to “The Bold and The Beautiful,” taking on the role of Mateo, a groundskeeper, for a 16-episode arc.
Later that same year, he made his mark in prime time with a role on “Jane the Virgin,” a show that humorously parodied soap operas with self-referential telenovela plots. In this series, Martin’s character Fabian acted in a fictional telenovela alongside Gina Rodriguez’s character Jane during Seasons 3 and 4.
Camila Banus, who starred alongside San Martin on “Days of Our Lives,” paid a heartfelt tribute to him on Instagram, as reported by Forbes.
“Pepe, what can I say other than I love you and may you rest in peace, my friend. You were the only one who saw me get sung happy birthday to by Pau during a concert in Hollywood, you couldn’t believe it,” Banus wrote. “I love you so much; I wish I had told you more.”
