Young Collector Hits Jackpot with Paul Skenes’ 1/1 MLB Debut Card: Pirates’ Bid Revealed!

Child in Los Angeles discovers Paul Skenes 1/1 MLB debut card: Pirates’ offer revealed

A rare treasure in baseball has surfaced.

An 11-year-old from Los Angeles was fortunate enough to uncover a 1/1 card of Pittsburgh Pirates rookie pitcher Paul Skenes, as announced by Topps on Tuesday. This exclusive card showcases a piece of fabric from Skenes’ jersey worn during his MLB debut and is signed by the 2024 NL Rookie of the Year.

The card made waves when it was first revealed in November, as the Pirates extended a significant offer to acquire it for display at their home, PNC Park. The team proposed an enticing package to whoever has the card, which includes:

  • Two season tickets located behind home plate at PNC Park for the next 30 years
  • A personal meet-and-greet with Skenes
  • Two jerseys signed by Skenes
  • A softball game for 30 people at PNC Park with coaching from former players
  • Participation in batting practice and warmups with the team
  • Exclusive experiences at the team’s Spring Training facility in Bradenton, Florida

To make the offer even more appealing, Skenes’ girlfriend, well-known LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne, added a chance for the card owner to watch a Pirates game from her suite.

Topps has yet to confirm whether the young cardholder has accepted the Pirates’ proposal for a trade.

Skenes’ card is part of the 2024 Topps Chrome Update collection, which features various rookies and second-year players, including MLB Debut Patch cards for names like Elly De La Cruz, Jackson Holliday, Jackson Chourio, Jackson Merrill, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Shota Imanaga.
