Tim Tebow cheering for Colorado’s Travis Hunter to shine as a two-way player in the NFL
Travis Hunter made a name for himself as a dual-threat player in college football, and as the 2025 NFL draft approaches in April, his prospective role in the league is a topic of much discussion.
If teams are convinced he can thrive as both a cornerback and wide receiver at the professional level, Hunter might just become the top selection in this year’s draft. Nevertheless, even as an exceptional cornerback, he could still secure a spot among the top 5 or top 10 picks, following his standout performance with Colorado.
Former Florida quarterback and current SEC Network analyst Tim Tebow is among those optimistic about Hunter’s potential to succeed on both sides of the ball. Tebow shared his thoughts on Hunter’s abilities during a conversation with YSL News’s Mackenzie Salmon.
“I would love to see him succeed in both roles. I’m a big fan of his talent and style of play,” Tebow expressed. “I’m really hoping he gets the chance to showcase both skills because that would be exciting.”
Hunter earned the 2024 Heisman Trophy, outperforming Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty after an extraordinary season that included 96 catches for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns as a receiver, along with 35 tackles, four interceptions, and 11 pass deflections as a cornerback.
He became the first player from Colorado to win the Heisman Trophy since running back Rashaan Salaam in 1994. Additionally, Hunter is the first non-quarterback to win the award since Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith in 2020, and the first defensive back to do so since Charles Woodson from Michigan in 1997.
According to Tebow, Hunter’s impressive size and athleticism make him an ideal candidate to excel at both positions in the NFL.
“He’s truly unique and exceptional,” Tebow remarked. “Most people don’t grasp just how big and long he is until they see him in person. He stands out among other corners and defensive backs due to his stature. He makes even larger players look petite on the field.
“He has extraordinary talent. He is likely to be a top pick, if not the top pick overall. He’ll excel as a cornerback, but why not give him the opportunity to explore both positions and see how he performs? He’s an incredible athlete capable of remarkable feats.”
