‘Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2’ Announces Premiere Date Following Canceled Theater Release

Kevin Costner’s Western film “Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2” is set to make waves.

The anticipated movie, which marks the second chapter in Costner’s “Horizon” series, will premiere in the U.S. at the 40th Santa Barbara International Film Festival, as announced on the festival’s social media on Wednesday.

The premiere is scheduled for February 7 at the Arlington Theatre, followed by a Q&A session with Costner, who took on multiple roles as director, co-writer, co-producer, and star of the film.

This premiere comes after New Line Cinema confirmed to The New York Times and The Associated Press in July that the planned theatrical release for the “Horizon” sequel, initially set for August 2024, has been canceled.

A New Line Cinema representative stated at that time that the decision was made to “allow viewers more time to appreciate the first part of ‘Horizon’ in the coming weeks.”

The first installment, “Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1,” which had a reported budget of $100 million, was released in June 2024. This Western drama features Costner alongside Sienna Miller and Sam Worthington and managed to earn $38.7 million globally.

“Chapter 2” had its debut at the 81st Venice International Film Festival on September 7, 2024, shown out of competition, a month after the originally planned theatrical release.

Costner, who began working on the “Horizon” project back in 1988, revealed in an interview with YSL News in June 2024 that the financial demands for both films were “significantly higher” than the $38 million he previously admitted to investing from his own funds in earlier discussions.

“From an entrepreneurial perspective, I try to navigate things. It’s like I’m a mongoose engaging with a cobra,” Costner remarked at the time. “I’m not naive, but it can feel that way. I can’t really articulate why I engage in these projects. I’m not harming anyone, and my goal is to deliver a meaningful entertainment experience.”

Tickets for the premiere of “Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 2” can be purchased through the official Santa Barbara International Film Festival website.
