Eight individuals were hurt and a woman is in custody following an incident where her car reportedly drove into a group of fans celebrating the Philadelphia Eagles’ playoff victory over the Washington Commanders on Sunday evening, according to police reports.

The Philadelphia Police Department informed YSL News that officers arrived at the intersection of North Broad and Spring Garden streets around 9:30 p.m. to address a situation involving a vehicle colliding with pedestrians.

This intersection is located approximately half a mile north of Philadelphia’s City Hall.

Preliminary police reports indicate that a silver 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLA250 collided with several people before it was halted by the authorities.

“Eight people experienced different levels of injuries, including pain and fractures,” stated the police in a news release.

26-year-old woman who drove into crowd detained

The 26-year-old woman behind the wheel has been detained, and investigators are continuing to look into the matter, the police confirmed on Monday.

Authorities have not disclosed the woman’s identity or the specific reasons for her arrest.

It remains unclear what led to the crash, but an initial post on the department’s X account suggested that the incident did not seem to be premeditated.

The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills 32-29 and are set to face the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl in New Orleans on February 9.
