An employee of American Airlines tragically passed away following an accident on the tarmac late Monday morning at the largest airport in North Carolina, according to officials.

According to a representative for the airport, a single-vehicle incident involving an airline ramp vehicle occurred around 9:30 a.m. at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. This information was relayed to YSL News on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services were quick to arrive, but unfortunately, the employee succumbed to injuries, as confirmed by the airport.

A spokesperson from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department reported that officers were called to the scene to address a situation where “an employee was reportedly struck by a vehicle on the tarmac.”

American Airlines expressed their sadness regarding the incident, stating, “We are heartbroken by the accident involving a team member at Charlotte Douglas International Airport.” They added, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and our local team members. We are dedicated to ensuring that everyone affected receives the support they need during this trying time.”

Identity of the deceased American Airlines worker remains undisclosed

The name of the employee who lost their life has not yet been disclosed by officials.

On Tuesday, the airport announced that chaplains were available at the site to provide support.

“We extend our heartfelt sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of the employee during this challenging time,” stated the airport. “The airport is collaborating closely with airline and first responders as they continue to investigate and provide necessary support.”
