Celebrity Cruises is set to venture into new water routes.

The cruise company is planning to offer river cruises starting in 2027, with reservations becoming available later this year, as announced on Tuesday.

“Celebrity River Cruises will bring the elegance and quality of our Edge Series ships to the most famous rivers, kicking off with Europe,” stated Laura Hodges Bethge, the president of Celebrity, in a press release. “We have transformed ocean travel with top-notch service, celebrated dining, and outstanding design. We are excited to bring these features to river cruising, paired with meaningful itineraries that will offer our guests a unique experience.”

The cruise line has ordered an initial fleet of 10 ships for its river offering.

Jason Liberty, the president and CEO of Celebrity’s parent company, Royal Caribbean Group, highlighted that about half of their clientele have experienced or plan to try river cruises. “By utilizing our valuable loyalty programs across our three brands, we aim to enhance customer engagement and retain guests within our range of vacation options,” he remarked in the release.

The company mentioned that travelers will explore “culturally and historically important cities” but hasn’t provided detailed itinerary information yet. Interested travelers can sign up for notifications on Celebrity’s website.

This announcement comes shortly after the cruise line revealed it had ordered its sixth Edge Series ocean vessel, expected to be delivered in 2028. The fifth Edge Series ship, Celebrity Xcel, is scheduled to launch in November.
