The Weeknd Unveils New Album ‘Hurry up Tomorrow’ and Announces 2025 After Hours Til Dawn Tour
Wrapping up a trilogy, The Weeknd encourages fans to “Enjoy the Show.”
After a week-long wait, The Weeknd released his new album on Thursday night.
Entitled “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” this album serves as the third and concluding part of The Weeknd’s “After Hours” series, with a tour announcement made the following Friday morning.
Initially scheduled for January 24, the album’s release was delayed due to wildfires that ravaged parts of Los Angeles, forcing the artist to also cancel a concert at the Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena, California.
Sales from the track “Take Me Back To LA” – featured in the new album – will benefit the LA Regional Food Bank, as stated in an announcement about the project. Following the show cancellation, The Weeknd contributed $1 million to the LAFD Foundation, a group supporting firefighters, along with contributing to GoFundMe’s Wildfire Relief Fund and the LA Regional Food Bank.
The album is now available on streaming platforms, offering fans a deep dive into the artist’s creative world. It follows 2020’s “After Hours” and 2022’s “Dawn FM,” showcasing a more introspective style with a focus on conflicted love songs rather than ballads. The album features elements like voicemails, heavy breathing, and snippets of conversation, creating an emotional atmosphere that invites listeners to connect with the music.
In a recent interview with Variety, The Weeknd suggested that this album could signify the end of his alter ego, a character Abel Tesfaye has embodied while performing.
“It’s a mentality I need to move into, but I’m losing interest in it. It feels like it comes with so much,” he shared with the publication. “When is the perfect time to step away if not at your peak? Once people know too much about me, it becomes the right time to change course.”
This change was hinted at in the description for “Hurry up Tomorrow.” It reads, “Whether it’s the finale of a trilogy or the conclusion of The Weeknd, Tomorrow is here,” on Apple Music.
The Weeknd Delves into ‘Enjoy the Show’
With his distinctive falsetto, the music conveys a dreamlike quality, intermittently punctuated by classic disco beats.
Exploring themes of heartbreak, fear, and the struggles within the industry, the tracks flow seamlessly into one another, crafted for an entire listening experience rather than individual songs. The recurring theme of addiction, prevalent in The Weeknd’s work, is especially pronounced in “Enjoy The Show,” which portrays an ongoing struggle and hints that this could be his final performance.
“And when the curtains call / I hope you mourn,” he expresses, “but if you don’t, I hope you enjoyed the (expletive) show / Let me know.”
In “Baptized In Fear,” he recounts a near-drowning experience, symbolizing a choice to choose life over surrender, resonating as a central theme throughout the album.
Notable Features in The Weeknd’s Album
The album boasts unexpected collaborations, including Florence + The Machine and Travis Scott on “Reflections Laughing,” and Lana Del Rey on “Abyss.”
In “Sao Paulo,” a previously released track with Anitta, The Weeknd presents a fast-paced techno vibe that stands out from the rest of the album.
Later this year, he will also debut a feature film that accompanies the album, starring alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan in a psychological thriller set to release in theaters on May 16.
