Reporter Issues Apology for Cutting Off Babyface During Chappell Roan Interview at Grammys Red Carpet

Reporter expresses regret for cutting short Babyface interview for Chappell Roan at Grammys red carpet

An Associated Press journalist has issued an apology following a mishap during the Grammys red carpet event on Sunday.

Leslie Ambriz, along with her co-host Krysta Fauria, welcomed music icon Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds by referring to him as a “legend.” They engaged in a discussion about how the devastating fires in Los Angeles have united the community and how music has helped the Grammy-winning artist cope with his feelings.

However, when Ambriz inquired about the growing trend of artists blending musical genres, Fauria suddenly shouted for Chappell Roan’s attention, which disrupted the conversation. Babyface, looking somewhat defeated, handed back the microphone and encouraged the reporters to interview the “Hot to Go!” performer instead.

“I’m so sorry, Babyface,” Ambriz apologized.

The interview then transitioned to questions for Roan about her Jean Paul Gaultier outfit, while Roan seemed unaware of Babyface’s unexpected departure.

Despite the interruption, Edmonds chose to focus on the positive aspects of the event. “The best part of the night was reconnecting with old friends, meeting new artists, and feeling all the love in the room,” he shared in a statement sent on Sunday to YSL News via his representative, Ernest Dukes. “That’s what I’ll remember. Music is larger than any single moment. Much love to all the winners and everyone creating amazing music.”

Khloe Kardashian, Dionne Warwick, and other stars defend Babyface

Many people on social media expressed their disappointment about the snub, including Dionne Warwick, who wrote on X, “Am I seeing this correctly?”

Warwick then posted a screenshot defining decorum and tagged the Associated Press.

In response to the way Babyface was treated, Khloé Kardashian expressed her frustration on X. “This is so disrespectful to Babyface during this interview,” she remarked alongside a clip of the encounter. “Babyface has made such a significant impact on the music industry in countless ways. It’s infuriating to see a LEGEND not receive the respect they deserve.”

Kardashian further stated: “He is a pioneer and deserves so much more than this. With decades of innovative work as a songwriter, producer, and performer, he has shaped the sound across multiple generations.”

She sent her love to Babyface, expressing her gratitude for all that he has contributed, referring to him as a “class act.” She concluded, “Regardless of stature—big or small, old or new—you don’t treat people like this. At least, not in my view. There is a proper way to handle these situations, and this was incorrect in my opinion.”

Actor Eric West suggested on X that a more graceful transition could have been made, implying they should have introduced Babyface to Chappell Roan for a smoother handoff, saying, “Super easy to say ‘Babyface, have you met Chappell?!'”

AP reporter acknowledges mistake during Babyface interview

At the conclusion of the AP’s red carpet coverage, Fauria took responsibility for the incident.

“I want to sincerely apologize for interrupting Babyface earlier,” Fauria remarked. “When Chappell Roan came up, there was a lot of chaos, as is often the case on these carpets. But I’m a huge Babyface fan, as we all are. So, I just wanted to express my apologies.”
