Barbie Hsu, beloved Taiwanese actress from ‘Meteor Garden,’ passes away at 48
Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu, widely recognized for her role as the romantic lead in the 2001 series “Meteor Garden,” has sadly passed away at the age of 48 due to influenza, as confirmed by her sister on Monday.
Affectionately referred to as “Big S” by her fans, Hsu died while on a family vacation in Japan. Sister Dee Hsu, known as “Little S,” shared the news, which quickly became a trending topic on China’s Weibo social platform.
“My beloved and gentle sister Barbie Hsu has succumbed to pneumonia resulting from influenza and has left us,” Dee stated in her message.
“I am thankful to have been her sister in this lifetime, and for the moments we shared. My appreciation for her will always remain, and I will miss her dearly!”
The sisters initially gained recognition through their pop group S.O.S, but Hsu’s iconic role in “Meteor Garden” solidified her place in entertainment history.
Barbie was previously married to Korean rapper Koo Jun-yup, known as “DJ Koo,” for nearly three years, following an 11-year marriage to Chinese businessman Wang Xiaofei. She leaves behind two children.
