Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford: A Fight That Could Define Their Legacies, Reports Say
Finally, a major event for boxing fans.
Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford are set to face off in September in Las Vegas, as reported by The Ring.
The result of this match could greatly influence the legacies of these two boxing legends.
Alvarez, once hailed as the top pound-for-pound boxer, has fallen to No. 7 at the age of 34. A win over Crawford could boost him back up the rankings, while Crawford, at 37, is currently positioned at No. 2.
Details about the weight class for the fight remain unclear. Crawford has never fought at more than 153 pounds, his last match being at super welterweight, while Alvarez hasn’t weighed in below 166 pounds since 2019, when he faced Rocky Fielding at middleweight for 159 pounds.
Both fighters are likely to be inducted into the Hall of Fame due to their impressive careers.
Alvarez (62-2-2, 39 KOs) has claimed world titles across four weight classes, spanning from light middleweight to light heavyweight. He currently holds the WBC and WBO super middleweight titles and recently defended them successfully against Edgar Berlanga on September 14 by unanimous decision.
His only defeats were to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in 2013 via majority decision and against Dmitry Bivol in 2022 by unanimous decision. Notable victories in his career include battles against Gennady Golovkin, Shane Mosley, and Jermell Charlo.
Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) has also captured world titles in four different weight classes, ranging from lightweight to light middleweight. He is the current super welterweight champion and recently won against Israil Madrimov by unanimous decision.
His most significant victory to date was a TKO win over Errol Spence Jr. in 2023.
