Marvel introduces a new Fantastic Four in ‘First Steps’ movie trailer
It’s officially clobbering time!
The debut trailer for Marvel’s “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” was released on Tuesday, allowing fans to get their first glimpse of the beloved superhero team making its entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The aesthetic of the film is inspired by the retro-futuristic style of the 1960s, reflecting the origins of the Fantastic Four comic series.
Set to hit theaters on July 25, “First Steps” tells the story of a group of astronauts who gain remarkable powers from cosmic rays. The team includes the super-stretchy leader Reed Richards (played by Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm, the invisible woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm, the human torch (Joseph Quinn), and Ben Grimm, also known as The Thing, a rock-like creature (Ebon Moss-Bachrach).
In the trailer, Sue expresses the group’s unity, stating, “Whatever life throws at us, we’ll face it together. As a family.” The teaser gives fans a taste of the adventure ahead, featuring the helpful robot H.E.R.B.I.E., the sleek Fantasticar, and the imposing villain Galactus (voiced by Ralph Ineson), who is shown eyeing New York City.
Directed by Matt Shakman, known for his work on “WandaVision”, this new installment also features Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer, the elegant herald of Galactus. Other cast members include Paul Walter Hauser, John Malkovich, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles.
The Fantastic Four made their first comic book appearance in November 1961 and their success paved the way for iconic characters like Spider-Man, Iron Man, X-Men, and the Avengers. “First Steps” marks the fourth time the team has been adapted for the big screen, following the 2005 film “Fantastic Four”, its 2007 sequel “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” (both featuring Chris Evans as Johnny Storm), and the poorly received 2015 reboot with Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan.
