Reports Indicate President Donald Trump Will Attend the Super Bowl
President Donald Trump is set to attend the Super Bowl.
According to various reports, Trump plans to be present for Sunday’s game featuring a rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles in New Orleans. The attendance of a sitting President at the Caesars Superdome adds a unique element to the excitement surrounding Super Bowl 59. In light of the tragic attack in New Orleans on January 1, which resulted in 14 fatalities and numerous injuries, security measures for this year’s Super Bowl have been significantly tightened. This attack also led to the postponement of the Sugar Bowl.
This year marks the Super Bowl’s return to New Orleans for the first time since 2013—less than six weeks following the incident where Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, drove a truck into a busy area of the city’s famous French Quarter. Jabbar died in a confrontation with police, who discovered an ISIS flag in his vehicle, prompting an investigation into the event as a terrorist attack.
Trump is regarded as potentially the first sitting President to attend a Super Bowl. His predecessors, George H.W. Bush, participated in the Super Bowl coin toss on two occasions—first in 2002 when the New England Patriots defeated the St. Louis Rams in the first Super Bowl following the 9/11 attacks, and again in 2017, just before the Patriots, led by Tom Brady, staged the most remarkable comeback in Super Bowl history against the Atlanta Falcons.
In addition to attending the game, Trump will engage in the pre-game activities on Sunday.
Fox News Channel has announced that it will feature a pre-recorded interview with Trump during its Super Bowl pregame coverage. The interview, held at Trump’s residence in Mar-a-Lago, Palm Beach, will discuss “the changes implemented by the Trump administration since the Inauguration and during the first 100 days of his presidency,” as stated in a release to YSL News.
This visit to the Super Bowl would mark Trump’s first attendance at a sporting event since his second inauguration last month, though he has regularly frequented such events throughout his political career.
Trump notably attended multiple college football games over the last decade and has continued to appear in public forums, even after surviving an assassination attempt at one of his campaign rallies in Pennsylvania roughly seven months ago. His most recent appearance was at the Army-Navy college football game in December.
