Hosting the 2025 Oscars: Key Details on Date, Time, and Viewing Options
Conan O’Brien is set to host the 2025 Oscars.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences made this announcement in November, marking O’Brien’s debut as an Oscars host. He previously hosted the Emmy Awards in 2002 and 2006.
“America spoke, and here it is: Taco Bell’s new Cheesy Chalupa Supreme. Oh, and by the way, I’m hosting the Oscars!” O’Brien humorously stated while revealing his hosting role.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy President Janet Yang expressed excitement about O’Brien being the host, praising his “exceptional humor, enthusiasm for films, and experience with live television,” along with his “extraordinary talent for engaging with audiences.”
Executive producers Raj Kapoor and Katy Mullan mentioned that O’Brien embodies all the qualities that make a great Oscars host, highlighting his wit, charm, and comedic talent, as well as his success in live events.

How to Watch and Stream the 2025 Oscars

Who Was the Host of Last Year’s Oscars?
Jimmy Kimmel hosted the Oscars for the fourth time in March of last year, having previously emceed in 2017, 2018, and 2023. In April, he mentioned he had been invited to host again in 2025 but joked he might decline, though he hinted he could change his mind to annoy President-elect Donald Trump, who criticized his performance.
From 2019 to 2021, the Oscars featured no host after Kevin Hart stepped down in 2018 due to controversy over past homophobic tweets.
Following three years without a main host, the 2022 Oscars were led by Regina Hall, Wanda Sykes, and Amy Schumer. Kimmel later suggested that not having a single host could have been a misstep, especially during the moment when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock, as it created uncertainty about who should address the situation.
