Japan Airlines plane collides with stationary Delta aircraft during taxi at Seattle airport
Authorities responded to a reported incident involving two planes at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on Wednesday morning, as per the airport’s announcement.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m. local time, involving a taxiing Japan Airlines aircraft that made contact with a stationary Delta Air Lines plane. The collision took place between the airport’s S concourse and the southern maintenance hangars.
According to officials, no injuries were reported following the incident. The airport is making arrangements to safely offload passengers from the Japan Airlines flight and lead them to the terminal. They added that overall flight operations were only slightly affected by the situation.
“We sincerely apologize to everyone involved for any inconvenience caused. A thorough investigation into the cause and circumstances is currently underway,” Japan Airlines stated to YSL News.
Incident follows notable crashes in Philadelphia and DC area
This event in Seattle comes at a time of increased vigilance regarding air travel in the United States following several tragic crashes in Philadelphia and around Washington, D.C., which resulted in over 70 fatalities.
On Tuesday, officials confirmed they had retrieved all 67 victims from last week’s catastrophic plane and helicopter crash near the capital, identifying 66 of the deceased as recovery operations continued in the Potomac River.
Additionally, last Friday, a medical transport aircraft crashed in a residential neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia, leading to the deaths of six individuals on the flight and one person on the ground.
Delta Air Lines has not yet responded to requests for comments on Wednesday.
