Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter VI’ Drops Hints of Release Date Following Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Spectacle

Lil Wayne’s ‘Tha Carter VI’ Hints at Release Date After Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Performance

The anticipation for a fresh Lil Wayne album is almost over.

The globally recognized “Lollipop” artist declared on Thursday that “Tha Carter VI,” the next chapter in his iconic album series, is set to be released on June 6.

The announcement surfaced in an unexpected place: a lotion commercial. In a Cetaphil ad titled “We’re all a Lil Sensitive,” he cleverly embedded the album’s release date with hidden clues reminiscent of Taylor Swift’s Easter eggs. The actors in the commercial sport jerseys bearing the numbers 06, 06, and 25, and the ad concludes with a door displaying the message “Do not disturb ’till 06-06-25, Carter VI.”

Since unveiling the original “Carter” album in 2004, Wayne has consistently added to the series every two to three years, with the exception of “Carter V,” which experienced significant delays.

Lil Wayne Will Skip Super Bowl Due to Kendrick Lamar Controversy

This month, Wayne hinted at his upcoming album in an Instagram story while revealing his absence from the Super Bowl taking place in New Orleans this Sunday.

“I’m not going to be there this week, y’all know that,” the rapper stated. “Much love to New Orleans, but I’m working on something very special. I’ve got exciting news for you.”

His choice to miss the prominent event in his home state coincides with a mild feud between him and halftime entertainer Kendrick Lamar (though this isn’t Lamar’s most recognized conflict). When Lamar was named the halftime headliner in September, Wayne expressed feeling “hurt,” believing he was overlooked.

“I thought there was nothing better than that spot, that stage, that platform, in my city. So it hurt, it hurt a whole lot,” he shared during an Instagram Live session at that time.

However, the tension may stem more from the NFL than from Lamar himself. During a December chat on “The Skip Bayless Show,” the rapper from Louisiana clarified his earlier remarks.

“I’ve talked to him, wished him well, and told him he better give it his all,” Wayne said. “You better kill it. You got to kill it.”

While he won’t be present in the audience, fans can still look forward to seeing Wayne on their screens during the Super Bowl. The new Cetaphil commercial, which humorously addresses his snub, will be aired during one of the prime commercial slots.
