Louisiana Woman Arrested Following the Death of Super Bowl Reporter in New Orleans Hotel
An individual has been taken into custody regarding the death of a sports journalist who was in New Orleans to cover Super Bowl 59.
Authorities from Kenner, Louisiana, have reported the arrest of Danette Colbert, a resident of nearby Slidell, after Adan Manzano was discovered unresponsive in his hotel room at the Kenner Comfort Suites.
The police stated that Colbert was observed using Manzano’s credit card at various shops in the New Orleans region. Surveillance footage also captured her entering the hotel room with Manzano on Wednesday and leaving the room alone the following morning.
While Colbert has not been charged directly with his death, she faces charges related to property crimes, which include fraud and theft.
Police disclosed that Colbert has a history of prior arrests for allegedly drugging men, stealing cash, and using credit and debit cards fraudulently among other financial offenses.
During a press briefing about the arrest, Kenner Police Chief Keith Conley mentioned that there are at least two other instances involving Colbert where men were drugged and their belongings taken, including one case in Nevada. A search warrant executed at Colbert’s residence revealed Manzano’s credit card and cell phone, as well as drugs and a stolen gun, although Conley indicated that the gun might not be related to this case.
Colbert was apprehended in New Orleans on Thursday night and remains in custody. Conley noted that additional charges could emerge depending on the coroner’s report and the ongoing investigation.
“She is certainly a repeat offender,” Conley remarked regarding Colbert. “Everyone should be vigilant about their surroundings. This is a significant issue that requires public awareness.”
Manzano was employed by Tico Sports and Telemundo Kansas City (KGKC), and was acknowledged as a “true professional and promising talent who exemplified excellence in his role.”
“We will profoundly miss Adan and his enthusiasm for sports, along with the impact he had on the local community,” stated the TV station. “Our thoughts and sincere condolences are with his family and friends during this challenging time.”
“Adan was a skilled and professional broadcaster, providing sideline coverage for the Spanish broadcast of the Kansas City Chiefs and serving as the play-by-play announcer for the KC Current. He was a vibrant team player who was appreciated and respected by all,” Tico Sports expressed in their statement.
“Adan was a dedicated father to his young daughter, a supportive colleague, and a loyal friend. His absence will be deeply felt within our TICO Family and he will be remembered fondly in our hearts.”
