Trump Cancels Biden’s Security Clearances
On Friday, President Donald Trump announced that he is revoking the security clearances previously granted to former President Joe Biden, along with access to classified intelligence reports. This action follows Biden’s decision to deny Trump similar access in 2021.
Trump expressed on Truth Social, “There is no necessity for Joe Biden to continue to receive classified information.” He added, “Consequently, we are revoking Joe Biden’s Security Clearances immediately and discontinuing his daily Intelligence Briefings.”
After taking office in 2021, Biden terminated Trump’s access to intelligence information shortly after the January 6 Capitol riot carried out by Trump’s supporters. At that time, Biden cited Trump’s “erratic behavior unrelated to the insurrection” as justification for his decision. Typically, former presidents receive such intelligence briefings.
“There’s no reason for him to continue getting intelligence briefings,” Biden remarked back then. “What benefit does it provide? How does he have any relevant impact, aside from the risk that he might inadvertently disclose something?”
In his social media post on Friday, Trump remarked that Biden “set this precedent in 2021,” and further criticized Biden, stating that even in his ‘prime’, he was “not trustworthy with sensitive information.”
Additionally, Trump has annulled the security clearances of former intelligence officials who were part of a 2020 letter claiming that emails found on Hunter Biden’s laptop showed “all the classic earmarks of a Russian information operation.” He also terminated the security details of John Bolton and Anthony Fauci, prominent figures from his own administration he had disagreements with.
