Katy Perry’s New Music Video Under Scrutiny by Balearic Islands’ Environmental Authorities

Katy Perry’s playful scenes at the beach in her recent music video are under investigation for filming in an area that necessitates a permit.

On Tuesday, the Balearic Islands’ Ministry of Agriculture announced in a Catalan press release that an inquiry into the “Lifetimes” music video has started, as the production team apparently did not seek permission to shoot at Ses Salines Natural Park. This park, situated between Ibiza and Formentera islands in Spain, is famous for its beautiful sand dunes.

However, the ministry made it clear that this situation does not constitute an environmental offense.

As reported by The Guardian and Billboard, the area in question is marked off with ropes to keep people out.

YSL News has contacted representatives for Perry and the production company WeOwnTheCity for their statements.

The music video for Perry’s second single from her anticipated album “143,” which dropped on August 8, follows the poorly received video for “Woman’s World.” In “Lifetimes,” which Perry describes as a tribute to everlasting love inspired by her daughter, Daisy Dove Bloom, she features scenes of motorbike rides, beach dancing in a bikini, and partying at a nightclub on one of the Spanish islands.

Stillz (known as Matias Vasquez), who has previously collaborated with artists like Bad Bunny, Lil Nas X, Coldplay, Rosalía, and Omar Apollo, directed this music video.

Katy Perry Also Faces Criticism for ‘Woman’s World’

Perry, who recently exited “American Idol” after seven seasons as a judge, is preparing to release her first album since “Smile” in 2020. “143” is scheduled for release on September 20.

After the backlash against “Woman’s World” last month, Perry shared a behind-the-scenes video on Instagram and appeared to defend it as a parody.

“You can do anything!” she wrote in the caption. “Even satire!”

“We’re just having a little fun with some sarcasm,” she mentioned in the video. “It’s very slapstick and straightforward.”

In her clip, she also notes that the video is intended to ironically show her and the dancers declaring they are “not focused on the male gaze,” when in reality, they are “really emphasizing it.”

Perry encountered additional criticism for her collaboration with Dr. Luke, the producer and songwriter whom Kesha accused of sexual assault. Dr. Luke has denied these allegations and claimed Kesha defamed him. One Instagram user remarked that working with Dr. Luke is “deeply disrespectful to Kesha and women everywhere.”
