Blake Lively Shares Domestic Violence Hotline Amid “It Ends With Us” Criticism

Blake Lively has posted a domestic violence hotline resource online after facing backlash from social media users.

On Tuesday, the star of “It Ends With Us” shared a link to the National Domestic Violence Hotline’s resource page on her Instagram story.

“1 in 4 women aged 18 and older in the U.S. have experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Intimate partner violence impacts individuals of all genders, affecting over 12 million people each year in the U.S. Everyone deserves to be in relationships free from domestic violence,” she wrote.

In this new movie, adapted from Colleen Hoover’s popular book, Lively plays Lily Blossom Bloom, a flower shop owner who falls for charming neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid (portrayed by Justin Baldoni) while also reconnecting with her solemn childhood friend, Atlas Corrigan (played by Brandon Sklenar).

The film, produced by Lively, tackles controversial subjects like generational abuse and the cycles of domestic violence, exploring how these issues can profoundly affect a person’s life.

However, some viewers feel Lively isn’t addressing these serious topics with the gravity they deserve.

What are the criticisms regarding Blake Lively’s approach to domestic violence in ‘It Ends With Us’?

In a promotional clip for “It Ends With Us,” Lively suggested fans “grab your friends, wear your florals,” which led to criticism online, with many feeling her comments were out of touch given the film’s serious themes. Social media users reacted strongly, citing the topic of domestic violence as inappropriate for such lighthearted remarks.

One user quipped on X, “I’m gonna start quoting Blake Lively in everyday life on the least suitable occasions,” jokingly suggesting her phrase be used at a funeral.

Another wrote, “Blake Lively really said ‘grab your friends and your florals’ for a movie about domestic abuse – so tone deaf.”

As criticism continued to mount, many took to Lively’s latest Instagram post to express their disapproval of her remarks during the “It Ends With Us” promotional tour.

One commenter stated, “I’m really confused. You seem to have missed the entire meaning of the film. I feel sad and disappointed.” Another suggested her efforts to repair her image, like posting to Instagram, were not enough: “This isn’t a movie about flowers, bby. Can you please promote it appropriately?”

Blake Lively’s criticism follows speculation about a feud with director and co-star Justin Baldoni

The backlash against Lively coincides with speculations of a conflict between her and Baldoni.

This drama began on August 6 at the New York City premiere of “It Ends With Us,” where fans noted that there were no pictures of the entire cast together.

While Lively was seen with her husband Ryan Reynolds, and co-stars like Jenny Slate and Brandon Sklenar, Baldoni appeared alone or with his wife, actress Emily Baldoni.

Baldoni mentioned in an interview with Today.com, “Every movie is a miracle, but you’re also working with different personalities and trying to get everyone on the same page. Mistakes happen, and then you find a way to move forward.”

As of this article’s publication, none of the main cast members follow Baldoni on social media. Amid growing speculation, he has reportedly hired PR expert Melissa Nathan, experienced in managing crises, to aid his public relations strategy.
