Reports: US Soccer Names Mauricio Pochettino as New Head Coach of Men’s National Team
The U.S. men’s national soccer team aims to achieve a significant transformation under a new head coach, replicating the success of the women’s team.
As per several reports, former manager of Chelsea, Tottenham, and Paris Saint-Germain, Mauricio Pochettino, has consented to become the new head coach of the USMNT, preparing the team for the upcoming 2026 World Cup and replacing Gregg Berhalter.
While Emma Hayes led the American women’s team to a gold medal finish at the Paris Olympics, the men’s team has encountered difficulties recently, notably failing to advance beyond the group stage in this year’s Copa America.
Following this disappointing exit, Berhalter was dismissed from the position he had held since 2018.
Pochettino, who hails from Argentina, brings a wealth of coaching expertise from Europe, yet this will mark his first venture into international coaching. He previously collaborated with U.S. Soccer sporting director Matt Crocker at Southampton in 2013.
Many soccer analysts view this hiring as a significant achievement for the U.S., especially since Pochettino was also in consideration for the England national team’s coaching role.
