Dodgers All-Star Tyler Glasnow lands on IL again
The Los Angeles Dodgers have put their All-Star right-handed pitcher Tyler Glasnow on the 15-day injured list as of Friday due to tendonitis in his right elbow.
In his place, the Dodgers have called up left-handed pitcher Justin Wrobleski, who started in Friday’s game against St. Louis.
Glasnow, who will be 31 next week, is going to the injured list for the second time within the last two months. He missed pitching duties in the All-Star Game last July due to back tightness.
This marks Glasnow’s ninth season in Major League Baseball, and despite his injury struggles, he recorded personal bests this year with 22 starts and 134 innings pitched. So far, he has a record of 9-6 in his first season with the Dodgers and maintains a 3.49 ERA.
Throughout his career, Glasnow has made 149 appearances (110 of which were starts) with the Pittsburgh Pirates (2016-18), Tampa Bay Rays (2018-23), and now the Dodgers. He holds a career record of 39-33 with an ERA of 3.81.
The 24-year-old Wrobleski made his major league debut on July 7 but has struggled, ending up with a 0-1 record and a 4.05 ERA across four starts.
The Dodgers’ starting rotation has faced numerous injury challenges this season. Right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto is expected to return soon from a shoulder injury, and Walker Buehler just came back from Tommy John surgery along with addressing hip inflammation.
Clayton Kershaw has made four starts since undergoing shoulder surgery in the offseason, whereas promising rookie right-hander River Ryan is out for the rest of the season due to a right elbow injury.
Additionally, the Dodgers sent infielder/outfielder Chris Taylor to Triple-A Oklahoma City for a rehab assignment on Friday. Taylor has struggled this season, batting .167 with a .542 OPS, and hasn’t played since July 24 due to a groin injury.
