Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn, known for their roles in “Scandal,” are stepping into the political arena as hosts for the upcoming Democratic National Convention.

The convention, taking place in Chicago, will feature celebrity hosts each night. Goldwyn is set to kick off the event on Monday, followed by “The View” co-host Ana Navarro on Tuesday, Mindy Kaling on Wednesday, and Washington on Thursday, according to a convention representative confirmed to YSL News.

Washington has a history of engaging with political issues. When Kamala Harris announced her presidential campaign, Washington expressed her confidence on X, stating, “Harris can and will win this,” and encouraged voters to rally together.

In 2012, she actively supported Barack Obama and spoke at the convention, and backed Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential run. Washington also hosted the virtual DNC in 2020 while campaigning for Joe Biden alongside her husband, Nnamdi Asomugha.

Leveraging her “Scandal” fame, Washington advocated for voter registration, even using a playful clip of her character, Olivia Pope, in a social media post that directed viewers to a voter registration site instead of providing a movie link.

During their seven seasons on “Scandal,” Goldwyn and Washington portrayed the President and his crisis manager, respectively.

Goldwyn currently plays Manhattan District Attorney Nicholas Baxter on “Law & Order” and serves as an ambassador for The Innocence Project. In 2016, he directed a commercial supporting Clinton’s campaign, featuring stars from the ShondaLand universe, like Washington, Ellen Pompeo, Viola Davis, and Shonda Rhimes.

Navarro is recognized as a political strategist and commentator with a Republican background, but she has been a strong critic of Donald Trump. She has labeled him a racist for his remarks about immigrants and has criticized other politicians associated with him, such as Ron DeSantis, stating she voted for Hilary Clinton in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020.

Kaling had previously co-hosted a fundraising event alongside Reese Witherspoon for Harris’ campaign for Biden and appeared on Harris’ YouTube channel in 2019 where they cooked masala dosa together.
