Embrace Social Media Mindfully: Strategies to Alleviate Online Anxiety

Young people's mental health may depend on how they use social media, rather than how much time they spend using it. Psychology researchers tried an experiment with three groups. They asked one group to stay off social media. They taught another group how to use it more constructively. The third group stuck with their usual

Ford and General Motors Recall 221,000 Vehicles: Find Out About Your Car’s Recall Status Here

Last week, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced several recalls, which included notices for more than 85,000 Ford Explorers due to potential engine failures.

Wondering if your vehicle is affected by any recalls? If your car isn’t listed here, you can check YSL News’s automotive recall database or search the NHTSA’s database for updates. The NHTSA website allows you to find recalls using your vehicle identification number (VIN).

Here’s an overview of the vehicle recalls announced by NHTSA from August 11 to August 17.

Ford Recalls

For Windows That May Pinch

Ford is recalling 70,483 units from the 2024 Ranger and 2024 Lincoln Nautilus. According to the NHTSA report, “if the windows are closed using the global closing feature, they may not automatically reverse upon detecting an object.” This could cause the windows to pinch a driver or passenger, increasing the likelihood of injury.

The NHTSA also states that these vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 118, which pertains to “Power-Operated Window Systems.”

To resolve this issue, dealers will update the software for the driver and passenger door modules at no cost. Recall notification letters are expected to arrive by September 23. For questions, owners can reach Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The recall number for this issue is 24C24.

  • 2024 Lincoln Nautilus

For Engine Failure

Ford has issued a recall for 85,238 of its 2020 to 2022 Explorer models, particularly those with the police interceptor utility package. The manufacturer noted, “in the case of an engine failure, oil and fuel vapor might leak into the engine compartment, collecting near ignition sources like hot engine parts or exhausts.” This situation could potentially lead to a fire in the engine compartment, according to the NHTSA report.

The report advises that owners of the affected vehicles should park and turn off their engines if they hear unusual engine noises, notice a sudden loss of power, or see smoke from the engine area.

Dealers will update the powertrain control module software and check for issues with the connecting rod bearing, replacing the engine long block if needed. All these inspections and repairs will be at no charge. Initial letters explaining the safety concerns are expected to be sent out on August 19, with a follow-up letter once the fix is available, which is projected for the second quarter of 2025. Owners can reach out to Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The recall number for this issue is 24S52.

For Steering Column Bolt Issue

Ford is recalling 1,902 of its 2023-2024 Transit models. The NHTSA indicated that “the steering column intermediate shaft might have been improperly secured to the steering gear pinion shaft with an incorrect bolt.” This defect could result in steering components separating, leading to a loss of steering control and increasing the crash risk.

Dealers will replace the faulty steering column intermediate shaft bolt at no cost. Notification letters for the recall are expected by September 9. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. The recall number for this issue is 24S48.

  • 2023-2024 Transit

For Suspension Knuckles Failure

Ford has announced a recall affecting 4,595 of its 2024 Mustang cars. The company noted that “the rear suspension knuckles might have a manufacturing flaw that can cause them to malfunction.” This defect could result in compromised vehicle handling and steering, raising the likelihood of a crash, according to a report from the NHTSA.

To address this problem, dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the rear suspension knuckles at no cost to the owners. Recall notification letters are anticipated to be dispatched on August 26. Owners can reach out to Ford’s customer service at 1-866-436-7332, and the recall number is 24S49.

Regarding windshield wiper motor failure

Ford is also recalling 37,371 vehicles because, according to the NHTSA report, “the front windshield wiper motor may stop working, leading to wiper failure.” If the windshield wipers fail, driver visibility could be severely impaired, significantly elevating the risk of an accident.

To remedy this issue, dealers will check and replace the windshield wiper motor when needed at no additional cost. Notification letters for owners are expected to be sent out on August 26. For help, owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332, with the recall reference being 24S51.

General Motors recalls

For brake loss issues

General Motors has issued a recall for 21,469 of its 2023-2024 Cadillac LYRIQ all-wheel-drive vehicles. The manufacturer stated that “the anti-lock brake system might engage unexpectedly, resulting in a loss of brake pressure in the service brake system.” This reduction in braking capability could heighten the risk of a collision, according to the NHTSA report.

To correct this issue, the electronic brake control module software will be upgraded either through an over-the-air update or via dealer service, free of charge. Recall notification letters are scheduled to be sent on September 23. Customers can reach Cadillac’s customer service at 1-800-458-8006 or the EV Concierge at 1-844-EV-CADILLAC (1-844-382-2345). GM’s identification number for this recall is N242453471.
