Amanda Gorman to Present New Poem at 2024 DNC: Important Details and Viewing Information
Amanda Gorman, recognized as the first national youth poet laureate of the United States, will take the stage at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) this Wednesday evening to share a new poem in support of Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic candidate.
Gorman’s upcoming performance marks more than three years since she recited her original poem “The Hill We Climb” at the inauguration of President Joe Biden in 2021, a role that honors a legacy of prominent poets including Robert Frost and Maya Angelou.
The 26-year-old poet is set to unveil her new piece titled “This Sacred Scene,” which draws inspiration from an “atmosphere of change and unity,” according to an interview with Vanity Fair.
“This is a huge convention. I’m accustomed to events that last only one day,” Gorman expressed to Vanity Fair. “This is a four-day celebration featuring numerous speakers, and I hope to honor the occasion with my performance.”

Who is Amanda Gorman?
Amanda Gorman is celebrated as the first national youth poet laureate and is noted for being the youngest inaugural poet in U.S. history, as reported by YSL News.
She began her journey in writing at a young age, inspired to express herself due to a speech impediment. Growing up in Los Angeles with her mother, who worked as a public-school teacher, Gorman joined WriteGirl, a nonprofit organization aimed at empowering teenage girls in creative writing, at the age of 14.
By age 16, she was appointed as the Youth Poet Laureate of Los Angeles and secured the national poet laureate title three years later while attending Harvard University, where she studies sociology.
Gorman’s Role at Biden’s Inauguration

During her five-minute performance, Gorman celebrated the diversity of the nation, urged citizens to improve their country for future generations, and called for unity and healing in light of the January 6 Capitol events that had just occurred.
