Trump’s campaign pulls ‘Freedom’ video following Beyoncé’s cease-and-desist
Donald Trump’s campaign has removed a video that featured a song by Beyoncé after reports emerged that her team was not pleased with the song “Freedom” being used.
As reported by Billboard and Rolling Stone, Beyoncé’s record label and music publisher issued a cease-and-desist letter to Trump’s campaign for using the song without permission.
Rolling Stone was the first to report that the artist known for “Cowboy Carter” did not authorize her song for Trump’s campaign. YSL News has reached out for a statement from Beyoncé’s team.
Steven Cheung, a spokesperson for Trump, shared a video on his X account showing the former president disembarking from a plane on August 20 while the 2016 track “Freedom” played. As of Wednesday afternoon, this video was still available on Cheung’s social media account.
The video was captioned: “Touchdown in Michigan!! @realDonaldTrump.”
However, the post was later removed that evening.
Beyoncé granted permission for ‘Freedom’ to be used by Kamala Harris’s campaign
Beyoncé’s “Freedom,” from her praised 2016 album “Lemonade,” has become an unofficial theme for Vice President and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris’s campaign.
Fans might recall that Beyoncé allowed Harris to use the song featuring Kendrick Lamar as part of her campaign back in July.
Harris played the song during her inaugural visit to her campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware, following President Joe Biden’s exit from the 2024 race and his endorsement of Harris.
Trump’s video adaptation of “Freedom” was released during the Democratic National Convention taking place in Chicago, where Beyoncé’s song was prominently featured.
It’s important to highlight that while Beyoncé has yet to publicly support any presidential candidate, members of her close circle, including her mother Tina Knowles, have shown support for Harris.
Trump shares fake Taylor Swift endorsement
The incident involving Beyoncé’s track is not the first controversy for Trump’s team amid his presidential campaign.
On Sunday, Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social several AI-generated images suggesting Taylor Swift and her fans were endorsing him, despite her prior criticism of the Republican nominee.
“Taylor wants you to vote for Donald Trump,” reads one of the AI-generated images of Swift depicted as Uncle Sam. Another AI image humorously claims, “Swifties turning to Trump after ISIS foiled Taylor Swift concert,” referring to a thwarted terrorist threat aimed at her concert in Vienna earlier this month, which authorities managed to prevent.
The images presented a mix of genuine and AI-generated visuals, showcasing some supporters of Swift for Trump, similar to the real MAGA Swifties group.
While Swift has not yet officially endorsed a candidate for the 2024 election, she has been increasingly vocal about her political beliefs in recent years.
