‘Scandal’ stars Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn gather again on DNC stage to back Harris
The co-stars recorded a selfie video to energize the audience on the last night of the convention.
Fans of “Olitz” were thrilled to witness Kerry Washington and her “Scandal” co-star Tony Goldwyn reuniting on stage during the 2024 Democratic National Convention held in Chicago on Thursday evening.
Washington, who is recognized for her role as Olivia Pope, a crisis manager in the acclaimed political drama by Shonda Rhimes, spoke at the event urging people to register to vote and expressing her backing for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.
“Standing here, I know some people on social media might say ‘Go back to your TV show. Be quiet and act.’ But I’m not here tonight as an actor. I’m here as a mother, a daughter, a proud union member,” Washington said, as the audience erupted in cheers.
She continued, “I stand here as the granddaughter of immigrants, as a Black woman descended from enslaved individuals. I am here tonight because I am an American, because I am a voter, and we, the people, are stronger when all our voices are included.”

After her speech, Goldwyn, who portrayed President Fitzgerald Grant III on the series, joined Washington on stage to film a selfie video with the audience.
“Are you ready for Kamala Harris to win?” Washington asked.
“Yes,” the crowd shouted back.
“Great, because when Kamala wins, America wins,” she declared. “We did it, Joe.”

“I’m about to binge-watch Scandal, this is pure NOSTALGIA,” a fan commented.
Another fan remarked, “Olitz on #TGIT? The country could definitely use that! I’d be thrilled if the rest of the gladiators returned and papa pope too.”
The duo, whose characters shared a complex and passionate relationship, have exchanged playful jabs at each other on social media and in interviews since the end of the show.
Just last June, Washington participated in the trending #BlackWifeEffect challenge, joking about how she influenced her co-star’s transformation and seizing the moment to promote voter registration.
“Tony! I’ve improved your life in so many ways #BlackWifeEffect, and today I’m adding one more,” Washington wrote in a caption of an Instagram post featuring Goldwyn’s pre-“Scandal” photos. “Now go improve your voter registration status to REGISTERED 😜. Love you!!!!!!”
“I’d be lost without you kw🤣 Registering NOW!🙌❤️,” Goldwyn replied.
