Kansas City Chiefs appoint Creed Humphrey as NFL’s top-paid center
The Kansas City Chiefs have secured center Creed Humphrey, ensuring he will continue to snap the ball to Patrick Mahomes for the foreseeable future.
Humphrey has signed a significant four-year contract worth $72 million, with $50 million guaranteed, according to an unnamed source familiar with the deal. This new agreement makes him the highest-paid center in the NFL, binding him to the Chiefs until the end of the 2028 season.
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach announced, “In the past day or two, we’ve had productive conversations. I anticipate finalizing everything soon.” He expressed enthusiasm for continuing Humphrey’s journey with the team during a broadcast of the Chiefs’ preseason match against the Bears on NFL Network. “We’re thrilled to keep Creed as part of our organization.”
Since being drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Humphrey has emerged as one of the league’s finest centers. He has made 51 consecutive starts during regular seasons, ranking third for the longest starting streak for a Chiefs rookie. With his vital role on the offensive line, he has developed a strong connection with Mahomes.
Over the past two years, Humphrey allowed only four sacks, receiving the highest pass-blocking grade among centers for 2023 from Pro Football Focus.
The 25-year-old center is not just a two-time Pro Bowler; he was also honored as a second-team All-Pro in 2022.
Humphrey played a crucial role in the Chiefs’ consecutive Super Bowl victories, and now he has the opportunity to earn more championship rings with this new four-year deal.
