Exciting Rumors Swirl Around a Possible Season 4 of ‘Ted Lasso’ at Apple TV+

‘Ted Lasso’ Season 4 might be on the way at Apple TV+, according to reports

AFC Richmond could still have more matches ahead.

Reports indicate that “Ted Lasso” may be returning for a fourth season on Apple TV+. Warner Bros. Television has renewed contracts for stars Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift, signaling their commitment to bringing back these actors for another season. This news was covered by outlets such as The Hollywood Reporter, Deadline, Variety, and The Wrap. Waddingham, Goldstein, and Swift portrayed Rebecca Welton, Roy Kent, and Leslie Higgins in the hit comedy about an American football coach (played by Jason Sudeikis) who takes on the challenge of managing an English soccer team.

Deadline was the first to share this exciting update.

Although there hasn’t been an official confirmation for Season 4 of “Ted Lasso,” reports mention that Warner Bros. Television plans to approach additional cast members to negotiate new contracts. Sudeikis is reportedly expected to return as an executive producer, as indicated by Variety. Filming for Season 4 might kick off as early as early 2025, according to Deadline and The Wrap.

YSL News has sought comments from representatives of Apple TV+, Warner Bros. Television, and Sudeikis.

This news comes as a bit of a surprise, as many thought the third season of “Ted Lasso” marked the end of the show. In May 2023, the series finale featured Jason Sudeikis’ character departing from AFC Richmond and returning to the U.S., seemingly wrapping up his journey.

The creative team behind “Ted Lasso” had previously mentioned their vision for a three-season storyline.

“We always intended for it to be three seasons,” producer and cast member Brendan Hunt told Entertainment Weekly. “It would have been awesome if we stuck to our plan despite the immense popularity of this show. But we were all caught off guard by just how much people love it,” he added.

However, Apple TV+ didn’t label the third season as the series finale, and Sudeikis, along with his fellow producers, were non-committal about the show’s conclusion right up until the end. During the 2022 Emmys, when asked if Season 3 would be the last, Sudeikis dodged the question, stating, “It depends on factors beyond my control.”

Earlier this month, co-creator Bill Lawrence mentioned to Collider that Sudeikis’s feelings would ultimately dictate the show’s future.

“As fans, we’d all be thrilled if it returns, but it really comes down to what Jason wants to do,” he shared with the entertainment site.

Since its debut in 2020—just a year after Apple TV+ launched— “Ted Lasso” quickly gained a reputation as one of the platform’s standout shows. It earned two consecutive Emmy Awards for Best Comedy Series for its first two seasons, with Sudeikis, Goldstein, and Waddingham also taking home Emmys for their performances.

However, the critical reception for the third season was less enthusiastic compared to the first two. YSL News TV critic Kelly Lawler noted that Season 3 faced issues such as “long and drawn-out episodes, weak characterization, poor plotting, and a lack of focus.” The third season did not win the Best Comedy Series Emmy, losing out to the inaugural season of “The Bear.”
